Postby cdillon » Fri Feb 15, 2013 2:39 pm

Dear The Retired Chicago Police Association,

The California Police Athletic Federation (CPAF) is a non-profit corporation, established in 1967, and is dedicated solely to promoting sport and physical fitness for peace officers and firefighters. To accomplish our mission, we run the United States Police and Fire Championships (USPFC), which is held in the summer of every year in San Diego , and the World Police and Fire Games (WPFG), which occurs in various cities around the world every two years. Only fulltime peace officers and firefighters, active or honorably retired, are eligible to participate. In this way, we are recognizing and honoring our homeland heroes.

The USPFC and the WPFG are competitive and professionally run Olympics-type events for both top-level athletes and those just want to participate. We provide a number of social events to encourage our competitors to meet their peers in casual, friendly and supportive settings. Our events typically include 60+ sports including baseball, basketball, bowling, cycling, golf, ice hockey, motorcycle, pistol, rifle, shotgun, soccer, softball, track and field, surfing, the Toughest Competitor Alive and triathlon, to name a few.

We are seeking your help and support for this event in two ways. First, we would like your assistance in getting the word out to your membership. We would like to provide promotional material to you periodically and ask that you pass it along to your members.

Second, we ask that you place a link on your website that would connect your interested members to our website.

Our website is www.cpaf.org. Please check us out at your earliest convenience

United States Police and Fire Championships: June 15th – 23rd in San Diego , California

World Police and Fire Games: August 1st – 10th in Belfast , Northern Ireland

If you have any questions regarding our events please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for your time, and we hope to hear from you soon.

P.S. If you are interested in making a donation or becoming a sponsor we would greatly appreciate your contribution.

The United States Police and Fire Championships began as the California Police Olympics in 1967 when they were organized by the Police Lieutenant Duke Nyhus. I retired from the San Diego Police Department in 2009 and am currently a member of our Retired Fire and Police Association.

Before changing to our current format we, met with SDPD Chief William Lansdowne regarding the United States Police and Fire Championships. In an attempt to minimize the impact our event has on department staffing, we have committed to him that we will utilize public volunteers to accomplish the presentation of the Championships. Assistant Chief Shelley Zimmerman has been involved with our event over the years.

On the Police Officer Association side of things, several members of their Board of Directors have been participants or have been involved in the past with presenting the Championships, formerly known as the Western States Police and Fire Games. Officer Paul Hubka is one of the current members of the POA Board of Directors. Paul can be reached through the POA at (858) 573-1199 or 8388 Vickers Street, San Diego, CA 92111.

Please let me know if we can provide you with any further information.
