Cheri is the daughter-in-law of Retired Area 1 Detective George Holmes.It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Cheri (Winiecki) Holmes, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, colleague, and friend who left this world far too soon, but whose light will continue to shine in the hearts of all she touched. Cheri was the loving wife of David Holmes, her sweetheart of 27 years and husband of 17 years, and the proud mother of their two sons, Alex (13) and Leo (10). She was the cherished daughter of Elizabeth (James) Crotty and the late Ronald Winiecki, devoted twin sister to Theresa (Pamela Plotkin) Winiecki and dear aunt to Francesca, and sister to Nicholas (Norma) Winiecki. Cheri was the beloved daughter-in-law of George and Ellen Holmes, sister-in-law of Deanna (Allen) Holmes and Jennifer (David) Marek, and aunt to Matt and Ryan Marek. Cheri was also the stepsister to James (Cathy) Crotty and a dear cousin to many. She was a loyal friend to so many who were blessed by her warmth, humor, and compassion. Cheri lived each day with strength, optimism, and grace. No matter what life was placed before her, she faced it with courage, determination, and an open heart. Her presence could light up any room, and her laughter lifted even the heaviest of hearts. Cheri lived with purpose and integrity, forever inspiring those fortunate enough to know her. proud Lieutenant, Firefighter, and Paramedic with the Chicago Fire Department, Cheri dedicated over two decades 22 years on the Chicago Fire Department and 27 years as a paramedic to selflessly serving others with unwavering courage and dedication. She was deeply respected by her colleagues and admired by her community, a true role model to many and a shining example of what it means to live a life filled with purpose, integrity, and service. Cheri’s love, light, and laughter will forever echo in the hearts of those she leaves behind. Her legacy endures in the countless lives she touched — through her service, her friendships, and her unwavering love for her family. Heaven has gained a beautiful angel, but Cheri will remain in our hearts forever. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Oak Lawn, Illinois, with a spiritual service beginning at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to The Yard Foundation in Cheri’s memory to honor her generous spirit and support a cause that helped her during her journey.

Kevin Kavanaugh funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Kevin J. Kavanaugh will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2025 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Davenport. The Mass will be livestreamed by clicking the following link: St. Anthony YouTube Page Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island with military honors. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport with a prayer service offered at 6:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be held from 9 until 10 a.m. in the gathering space at St. Anthony’s. Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous. Kevin died peacefully Friday, October 24, 2025, at his home in Davenport.



Retired Detective Richard Landgraff. Funeral info: Visitation will be on Wednesday, 29 October for 3 PM to 8 PM at Cooney Funeral Home, 625 Busse Hwy, Park Ridge. Funeral mass will be on 30 October at 1030 AM with visitation from 10-1030 AM at St. Edward’s Church 4350 W Sunnyside, Chicago.

Roland “Rocky” G. Libby, age 75 of Blue Island passed away October 25, 2025 Proud father of Rocky “Junior” Libby, Michael (Mary) Libby and Erin “Punkin” (Pat) Disabato. Caring brother of Judy and the late Robert and Jackie. Committed brother-in-law to Barbara, Robert, Janice and Diane. Loving uncle RoRo to Laura (Jeff) and the late Jeffrey and Susan (David), along with Lance and Alyssa. Great uncle to Garrett and Kendal. Devoted grandpa “gramps” to Conor, John and Josie. Doting son to the late Alice (nee Mahar) and Robert Libby. Loyal friend and confidant to many. He is lovingly remembered by his former wife Karen, with whom he shared many special years and a beautiful family. Rocky started his career by following in the footsteps of his father and brother, working for the Rock Island Railroad at age 18. Soon after, he went on to work as a part-time officer with the Calumet Park Police Department in 1973. In 1975, he entered the police academy in Champaign, and eventually became a proud full-time officer with the Blue Island Police Department, He rose through the ranks and served in many roles over the years, including head of security for Dwight D. Eisenhower H.S. and finishing out his career as Deputy Chief. He was also a member of the Emerald Society of Illinois, where he served as their 4th President from 1988 to 1990. After retirement from the police department in 2004, Rocky filled his days by working as a ranger for The Meadows Golf Course and also for Cinder Ridge. In most recent years, he could be found at O’Connell’s Pub Time in Blue Island, where he worked and shared many laughs, stories and good times with friends old and new. In his leisure, he enjoyed spending time with his family, going to his camper in Wilmington, visiting his favorite “spots”, and patrolling the area to his very last days. He remained a proud and loyal resident of Blue Island, and prided himself on being one of the few to help keep the lights on in town. Visitation Monday, November 3, 2025, from 2 PM until time of Funeral Service at 8 PM at Hickey Memorial Chapel 2429 W. 127th St. Blue Island, IL 60406.

Robert “Bob” E. Steinway of Dyer, Indiana passed away in the presence of his family on the morning of October 24, 2025. Bob was born on September 11, 1952 at Mercy Hospital on Chicago’s South Side. A native of the South Shore neighborhood, he attended St. Bride’s and later Mount Carmel before graduating from Hinsdale South High School in 1970. Bob served honorably in the US Air Force for four years, including a tour of duty in Southeast Asia. Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Bob proudly served in both the DuPage County Sheriff’s Department as well as the University of Chicago Police Department, for over 30 years of combined law enforcement service. Bob was a devoted husband to his wife of 47 years, Mary Lou. The two of them shared many laughs and adventures over the years, including several trips to Europe. Bob was a dedicated and very proud father to his son, Christopher, and daughter-in-law, Brenna. His granddaughters Annie and Tori were the light of his life, and he enjoyed many days visiting, joking and playing with them. Bob was a devoted and loving owner of many dogs over the years, including Baxter, the Alpha dog in his heart, and Sparkle, his favorite cuddling partner. An avid reader, Bob remained engaged with history, politics and current events throughout his life. Most afternoons, Bob could be found reading and enjoying a cigar with a Cuba Libre. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph E. and Margaret (initial) (nee O’Ryan) Steinway, and is survived by his wife Mary Lou (nee Michalic), son Chris, daughter-in-law Brenna, grandchildren Annie and Tori, his four siblings, Margaret M. (John) Rohlfing, Ralph E. (Linda – dec.), Roger F. (Debbie) and John J. (Linda) Steinway along with several nieces and nephews. Bob cared deeply about the welfare of police families and animals; as such, the Steinway family would ask that any donations be made to the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation or the Humane World for Animals (former the Humane Society of the US) in lieu of flowers. Visitation and Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, November 1, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Closing Prayers at 11:00 a.m. at the Elmwood Funeral Chapel 11300 W. 97th Ln. St. John, In. 46473 to Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church for Funeral Services at 11:30 a.m. Interment Private.
