John R. “Red” Healy, Ret. Detective, C.P.D. Age 80, took his life on May 10, 2023. Beloved husband of Mary (nee Ryan) for 55 years. Loving father of Erin (John) Ross, Megan Healy, and the late Ryan Healy, C.P.D. Proud “Papa” of Jack, Brigid, Quinn, and Molly. Beloved Son of the late Anne (nee O’Hara) and John Healy. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Proud U.S. Air Force Veteran. Member of Fraternal Order of Police. Longtime Parishioner of Christ the King Parish. Former Director of Security for Marquette Bank. Red was an avid bicyclist and enjoyed playing golf. Family and friends will meet at Christ the King Church, 9235 S. Hamilton Ave., Chicago, IL 60643 on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, for visitation 10:00am-1:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday at 1:00pm. Interment: St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Christ the King-Ryan Healy Memorial Scholarship c/o 9235 S. Hamilton Ave., Chicago, IL 60643 are most appreciated. Funeral Info: 708-636-5500.

Richard Jerome Topel, age 81, of Merrillville, Indiana passed away peacefully at his home with his loving family at his side on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. Richard is the loving husband of 58 years to Helen Topel; adoring father to Mary Ellen (Raymond) Preusser; proud Papa to Nicholas, Nathan, and Raven Preusser; cherished brother to June (the late Ernie) Mekenas, Janet (the late Russ) Harvey, Shirley (late Richard) O'Connor and the late Elmer (Pat) Topel; devoted son to the late Elmer and Marie Topel; favorite uncle to many. Richard retired from the Chicago Police Department after 33 years of faithful service, working the Chicago 12th District. He loved road trips, he and his wife had traveled throughout the United States. It was very easy for Richard to obtain and maintain many friendships throughout the years. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Visitation will be Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 11:00 AM until the time of his funeral at 2:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home with Fr. Thomas Mishler officiating. He will be laid to rest in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial may be given towards the Saint Jude Police League. https://www.saintjudepolice.org/

Martin J. Tyler, Sr. Family and friends will gather for visitation on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Palos-Gaidas Funeral Home, 11028 Southwest Hwy. Palos Hills, IL 60465. Funeral Wednesday 9:00 a.m. from the Funeral Home to St. Daniel the Prophet Church, Mass 11:30 a.m., Interment will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Marty lived 96 years and was in good health and sound mind until the end. A life we all should be so lucky to have. He will now be reunited with his beloved Isobel and his son Marty. Marty was lucky enough to spend more time in retirement than his time on the Chicago police dept. way to go Marty. We will all miss his singing with his daughters that were always posted on Facebook. Our most heartfelt condolences go out to the entire Tyler family.

PEER SUPPORT PROGRAM!

Since its establishment in 2000, the Peer Support Program has been a resource to provide assistance in times of need for Active and Retired Department members and their families. Certified Peers have completed a 40 hour training and their conversations are protected by confidentiality in place under State Law 5 ILCS 840, First Responders Suicide Prevention Act. Active and Retired Peers are on call and available 24/7 and can be reached by calling the Professional Counseling Division number at 312-743-0378. Refer to AMC 293848 for instructions to access the list of Peer Support Members in your Unit or District, and a Video Link highlighting the CPD Peer Support Program.
