On 15 May 2023 at 2200 hours two victims were walking E/B on Cortland when they observed both offenders to have the sidewalk blocked with bicycles. Both victims turned around and walked the other way, at which time both offenders approached the victims from behind saying “purse, purse, purse,” both victims complied and dropped their purses, one offender then pointed a handgun at the victims and fired one gunshot at them striking one victim in her lower left leg. Both offenders then fled on their bicycles. The victim was transported to Humboldt Health by CFD #52 and later transferred to Stroger Hospital in Good Condition. Responding 014th District officers having a description of the offenders, toured the area. 014th District Officers observed the offenders matching the description to be on bicycles and removing gloves. Officers engaged in a foot pursuit. Offender #1 was detained and positively identified in a show up on scene by the victim. Offender #1 was placed into custody and transported to Area 5. The second offender made good on his escape. Felony review was contacted and the offender in custody was subsequently charged with one count of Armed Robbery, one count of Attempted Armed Robbery and one count of Aggravated Battery with a firearm. Due to Officers dedication to duty, patience, investigative skills, and ability to bring this case to a successful conclusion, a dangerous Robbery Offender was removed from streets of Chicago. You are a credit to the Chicago Police Department and a valuable asset to the City of Chicago. Thanks for a job well done!
