Joseph T. Dowling, CFD Retired, U.S.A.F. Veteran. Age 90. Beloved husband of Shirley A. Dowling (nee Ward). Loving father of Joe (Gloria), John (Martha), Jean (Garrett) Ryan, Jim, Jeff (Joanna), and Janet (Joe) Dant. Cherished grandfather of Ryan (Anne), Sean, Clay (Lauren), Will, Casey (Alanna), Mary, Anne, Evan Dant, Garrett Ryan, Courtney (Rich) Pasquesi, Conor (Shannon), Quinn, Austin Ryan, Shannon, Erin, Patrick, Grace, Jeffrey, and Michael Dowling. Proud great grandfather of 9. Kind son of the late Joseph P. and Rose (nee Cantal) Dowling. Dear uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Mark G. Vail, age 68, CPD Retired, United States Coast Guard Veteran, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on December 20, 2023. Mark was the beloved husband of Mary Jo for 38 wonderful years; loving father of Luke G. and Colin J. Vail and Devin (Danny) Pacheco; dearest son of Mary Elizabeth "Betty" and the late Andrew Vail; dearest brother of Andy (Susan) Vail, Mary Carol (the late Marty) Carey, Maureen (Jim) Wronski, Matt Vail and Karen (Brendan) Curran; fond uncle of many. Mark was a veteran of the Chicago Police Department serving for 35 years, and was also a drug and addiction counselor. He was a friend of Bill W. Memorial Visitation is Saturday, December 23, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of a 12:30 p.m. Service at Cumberland Chapels, 8300 W. Lawrence Ave., Norridge, IL. Dear CPD AZ Retiree’s,

Our monthly luncheon this month is on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at the EAGLE BUFFET IN CASINO ARIZONA, 524 N. 92nd St, Scottsdale, AZ 85256, right off the 101 & 202 at McKellips. The buffet does not open until 11:00 AM. We will check-in at 11:00 AM. Stay in the right line, and please identify yourself that you are with the CPD AZ Retiree Luncheon group. When you pay, the cost of the luncheon is now $25.00, which includes all you can eat, beverage, dessert, tax and tip. Laura Peterson, the food service manager, is our contact person. She is doing a wonderful job to accommodate our group. They will try to get us through the line and get us seated quickly. We will be in the rear room if it is available. EAP SUPPORT GROUP!

The Professional Counseling Division/ EAP is offering a support group for black female members. Meetings take place the 3rd Thursday of each month at 1800. For more information call EAP at 312-743-0378.

CHAPLAINS CORNER!

The Police Chaplains Ministry invites you and your family to their regular Sunday Mass on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month at 1100 hours. The next Mass is on Sunday, 24 DEC 23, 2023 in the Chapel located at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, 1140 W. Jackson Boulevard, Chicago, IL. There is ample parking on the surrounding streets, and in the large parking lots with access from Aberdeen Street, between Adams Street and Jackson Boulevard. Please do not park in the Racine Avenue lot. Mass is typically over before 11:30 a.m. to accommodate on-duty worshippers. Fellowship with coffee and refreshments usually follows Mass in the cafeteria except on holidays. While this is a Catholic Mass, all members of the CPD family are welcome, regardless of creed.
